Primitive Methohodist Church, Frome Hill. THIS Church was opened on May 21st, 1902, by L. L. MORSE, Esq., J.P., C.C., (Mayor of Swindon), and the total cost is about £2,800. The buildings comprise a wide Nave of 40 feet span, with a Gallery at the north end, approached by a staircase in the Tower, and an apse containing the Choir, Organ, Rostrum and Minister's Vestry at the South end, and will accommodate 530 worshippers in all. The Chapel is designed in a simple style of Early Gothic character, and is lighted from a large traceried north window, and windows on the east and west side. The joinery work throughout, including the Gallery front, Rostrum, Pewing, &c. is of pitch-pine, and varnished, and the floor is of red deal wood blocks. The Chapel was designed by Mr. WILLIAM JOHN WILLCOX, of 1, Belmont, Bath. Messrs. HODDER & SONS, of Frome, were the contractors, and Messrs. HADEN & SONS, of Trowbridge, provided the heating arrangements. The ventilation is by Boyle's air pump extractor, on the ridge of roof, and numerous fresh air inlets in the Chapel, which can be regulated. (transcript supplied for indexing purposes) |
