These pages were created to show a pictorial record of the construction of the Route 24 of National Cycle Network through Radstock, Somerset.
When completed, NCN24 will form part of a route from Bath, on NCN4, via Limpley Stoke on the Kennet & Avon Canal, Radstock, Frome, Longleat Estate, Warminster and along the Wylye Valley through to Salisbury, mostly using a mix of canal towpath, disused railway trackbed and quiet country lanes.
The first of the two sections of route described here is accessed from Waterloo Road, Radstock, along a section of the old Somerset & Dorset Railway, for just under 2 miles to the village of Shoscombe. The second section uses part of the old Bristol & North Somerset Railway which is accessed from Meadow View, Radstock for about 3 miles through to the site of Mells Road Station.
These two sections will link to the Norton-Radstock Greenway in the centre of Radstock
See the mapping section in the Sustrans web pages.
Construction work started February 2nd 2004, after several years of planning and fund raising by Sustrans, the civil engineering charity dedicated to encouraging more people to make more journeys without using motor transport.
A pictorial record of the construction of the two sections of path over a period of 10 weeks starts here
An ongoing story of any further development of the routes will appear here.
