Picture Postcard of the George Inn, Norton St. Phillip
The George Inn - Norton St. Phillip

The pub was licensed as an Alehouse in 1397.
The Duke of Monmouth spent the night here shortly before The Battle of Sedgemoor, when an attempt was made to shoot him as he stood at a window.
Note the old signpost pointing the way to Faulkland, Radstock, Frome etc.
The card was published by R. Wilkinson & Co. of Trowbridge and is unnumbered
(from Per Dindorp's collection)
