BATH & North East Somerset Council is reviewing the green spaces on offer to local residents and wants to hear what you think about them.
During the next few weeks, on-street surveys will be taking place across the area to find out how often people use green spaces and what they think of them.
The results will then be used to see what, if any, improvements are needed or what the Council can do to encourage people to use them more.
Local residents can also fill in the survey form on-line at the Council’s website or by calling 01225 477010 to have a form sent through the post.
Green spaces are the areas many of us use for relaxation, leisure and recreation and include formal and informal areas.
The range of spaces on offer in Bath & North East Somerset is vast and for the purposes of this review the Council has divided them into the following categories:
- formal green spaces (parks and gardens)
- informal green spaces (general open space, village greens, and recreation grounds)
- natural green spaces (woodlands, natural and semi-natural areas and green corridors)
- allotments, community gardens and community orchards
- sports facilities (areas for sport participation by teams and individuals)
- play facilities (areas designed for the play and social interaction of children and young people
Andy Chard, Parks and Grounds Technical Officer, said: “Work started on the Green Space Strategy earlier this summer when Bath & North East Somerset Council held a number of focus groups around the area to gauge what members of the public think about the green spaces in the district.
“I hope you will take the time to make your comments known to us. Green spaces are something the Council considers to be extremely important – please let us know what you think.”
Councillor Nicole O’Flaherty, Executive Member for Tourism, Leisure and Culture, said: “Green spaces are important to all of us and here in Bath & North East Somerset we are very lucky to be blessed with such wonderful green spaces.
“It is important that we know what you think of these and what you think can be done to improve them. Please let us have your views if asked in the street or contact our officers who would be delighted to hear from you.”
